Quilted Jacket



Learn how to create your own quilted jacket with finished seams and bound edges. You will need to have all of your supplies ready, and supply your own quilt. Any fabric you use must already be quilted! The pattern will be supplied, but the pattern will only be for your use during the class.

Supply List: 

  • Quilt with a minimum size of 70" x 70"
  • Purchased bias tape is not suitable for this project!
  • Binding - minimum 250" (6-7 strips WOF) of prepared 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" binding prior to the class. You will need binding for the body, neck, and cuffs of your jacket
  • Fabric cutting scissors (Keep in mind that you will be cutting through layers of quilt)
  • Pins 7 Clips
  • Thread to match outer fabric and full bobbin
  • Serger (Not required, but if you have one bring it)
  • (Optional) Walking foot if you have one (or 1/4" foot, foot #1 or similar)
  • Sewing machine needles, 75/11 or 90/14
  • You can use a wool blanket or even a kantha quilt. For yardage, a minimum of 2 1/2 to 3 yards-must be quilted!
Pattern Sizes Used:
  • Smaller Sizes 2-12 (X-Small, Small, Medium)
  • Regular Sizes 14-22/24 (Large, X-Large, XX-Large, XXX-Large)


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Knowledge of garment construction is helpful, but not necessary. Techniques involved include: straight seams, serged, over-locked, or zig-zag seams, pockets, and apply binding.
